Conference paper: Vancouver, Canada
Dr. Martin Partridge was invited to present at the Ninth
Interdisciplinary Social Sciences annual conference held at the University of
British Columbia (UBC) Vancouver, Canada.
His paper reports on how using World Café research method successfully, can engage people who have traditionally been unheard.
As part of a wider study on the satisfaction of social care,
Martin used the World Cafe method to enable participants from Chinese
backgrounds, Chinese specific services,
local authorities, private sector organisations and service users to
‘take turns’ to be heard and to voice their thoughts and concerns of social care
as part of a process to advocate for action and change to improve access to
social care services for this population group.
The depth and contextual-specific nature of this feedback is
considered a particular strength in utilising this particular approach.
Martin’s paper was received well and the conference attracted a wide range of academics
from around the world including those from China, Korea, India, Brazil, Chile,
the United States of America, Canada and Europe.
As a result of attending this conference, Martin has now
been invited to work collaboratively with colleagues from other universities in
Hong Kong and the UK.
